Thank-you messages for a coworker who helped
Workplace appreciation feels more personal when it names a contribution instead of relying on a job title. A good note can be warm, specific, and brief without sounding like a performance review.

Recognize the contribution, not just the result
A deadline met is visible. The patient explanation, careful preparation, or calm handover behind it can be easier to miss. Tell your colleague which part you noticed.
If others contributed, keep your praise accurate. Thanking one person does not require suggesting that they did all the work.
Match the note to the relationship
With a close colleague, write as you normally speak. With someone you know less well, a direct thank-you and one concrete detail is a comfortable starting point.
Keep private project information, customer details, and sensitive personal context out of a note that might be shared.
Let appreciation stand on its own
Avoid attaching a new request to the end of the thank-you. Give the person a moment of recognition without turning it into another task.
When choosing a gift or card, check the organization’s policy first. If gifts are restricted, ask about an appropriate way to send your appreciation.
